Four Tips for Creating a New Blog

The world is full of blogs, there’s no doubt about it. And more are coming every day. You may feel inspired to write one, for various reasons. I’m not here to talk you out of it. I’m here to help you make an informed decision.

The first thing you need to decide is: do you want to do it just as a hobby, or do you desire to make money off of it at some point in the future? You need to be very clear about this from the start, and not waver from your chosen goal. If you do you will end up unsatisfied with divided energies, and honestly in cases like that it really is better to not even start.

Once you have that point absolutely crystal clear, you have to decide on what exactly your blog will be about, and who your target audience will be. A lot of people just end up writing a little bit about everything, but unfortunately, that’s the same thing as writing about nothing at all. You need to be specific about what you really want to write about. Trust me, if people are going to read your blog, it’s because you focused on them as an audience! In today’s world full of distractions, you have to reel people in.

Once you have decided on your focus, you have to think about how to generate traffic.  The content could be the best in the world, but people have to know it’s out there or they will never come. The most important way for a new blog to get followers is through Search Engine Optimization, or SEO. A full discussion on SEO is too much for this article, but if you want to find out more about it, you could go here (there is also some good advice for power bloggers on that link).

Lastly, if you have decided that you want your blog to generate actual income, you need a way to be able to convert your traffic into income. Unfortunately it can be really easy to have a site where you generate lots of traffic but no income. Once again, if you’re interested in reading more about the topic you can go here.

So now at this point you are more ready to take on the highly competitive world of blogging. I wish you all the success in the world; go out and do it!
